Our main goal when creating Google Add-ons is to make the life of teachers easy. Student and teacher privacy is at the center of this. We want to be clear with all the data that we use and how we deal with it. We never want to have any PII and uphold COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR.
Slides Translator does not record your email address or any other information about you when you use the Translate Text feature. It only takes the text you select and has it translated using Google tools and returns it to your Sidebar, only acting when you ask it to.
*New as of April 4, 2020*
We have added a Voice Typing feature with most languages! We also have added Google Analytics, with anonymized user info--just a random string and nothing else but the domain name, to check how often certain features are used to help improve the Add-on. This is still COPPA and FERPA compliant and it is always done from the server to Google servers (Firebase and Google Analytics) so there is no exposure to your anonymized info.
What does Slides Translator ask permission to do?
- View and manage the Google Slides presentations that this application is installed in.
Slides Translator needs access to the current presentation to get the Text that you want to translate
- Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications.
Slides Translator uses Google's Translate API to translate your text and then it puts the translation in the Sidebar.
- Connect to an external service (* new as of April 4*)
Slides Translator added a new Voice Typing option as of April 4. We use Google Analytics to improve the Add-on. The main point is we anonymize the user's email address before sending to Analytics to help improve the Add-on. To clarify, we store no Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
